FOR CLUB 513
The House on 70 Scout Fernandez St.
The house on 70 Scout Fernandez St. Barangay Laging Handa, Quezon City is home to people from all walks of life. Ever since the Dominican Sisters of Regina Rosarii has rented it to become the Regina Rosarii Center for Contemplative Prayer, it has become a sanctuary to those who seek to experience God in a quiet, healing and welcoming, sacred space. For almost a year now, the house became a temporary dwelling for bishops, priests and nuns, congressmen and artists, men and women in business and professional careers, people who live in mansions and families who live in karitons. The house welcomed them all.
On May 13, 2006, the house shall humbly offer itself as temporary residence to a Lady whose greatness, in size and in honor, shall reign majestically over an urban community that needs a constant reminder of a mother’s love for her Son and the Father’s Love for humanity.
A twenty- foot statue of Mary, Regina Rosarii, carved by the artistic hands of Joseph Barcena, Jr, and put up by the generous hearts of donors and benefactors, shall stand on top of the five-story house, looking over Her beloved people.
Sr. Eppie Brasil, and the sisters of OP Regina have committed themselves to building statues of Mama Mary. They labored for the construction of Regina Rosarii Shrine in Tagum City and the Regina Rosarii Prayer Park, Tagaytay City. Both are now considered places of worship, pilgrim sites and tourist destinations.
With full confidence in the Divine Providence, the sisters of OP Regina, and their lay partners, the Regina Rosarii Contemplative Association (ROCA) believe that the statue and the prayer garden around it will play a great role in the life of the city, the Metro and the whole country.
But that is not the end of our story.
The house on 70 Scout Fernandez belongs to a family who has migrated to the province. The sisters have a lease contract for five years, with an option to buy. On March 21, 2006, on the occasion of the founding chapter of the congregation, the sisters and their lay partners prayed hard and discerned about the future of the house and the statue of Our Lady. And they heard the call to make the place a permanent home of Mary, Regina Rosarii, our Lady in the City.
The house on 70 Scout Fernandez will cost us around P13 million to purchase, an exuberant amount that is way beyond the capacity of the sisters and the lay partners. But the decision was borne out of faith and trust that there are people today who are willing to become our mission partners in this endeavor and shareholders in this ministry.
Thus born Our Lady’s Club 513.
Our Lady’s Club Five One Three (513)
The number 513 bears multiple meanings to the sisters of OP Regina and to the members of ROCA.
513 means May 13, a date that has three layers of significance to us:
a. it is the feast day of Our Lady’s apparition in Fatima where the Blessed Virgin Mary announced herself as the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, or the Regina Rosarii
b. it is the foundation day of the youngest branch of the Dominican order in the Philippines, the Dominican Sisters of Regina Rosarii,
c. it is our chosen date for the unveiling of Our Lady in the City
513 means Matthew 5:13, the scripture passage upon which OP Regina and ROCA have founded their charism, mission and spirituality.
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt should lose its taste, how can it be made salty? It’s no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled on by men.”
513 means hope for us today. It is our way of making Our Lady’s home truly hers for all time. Our Lady’s Club 513 is a community of five hundred thirteen (513) individuals who will pledge to contribute 513 a month for the next five years. That is enough for us to purchase the house at 70 Scout Fernandez St.
513 means the 5 masses and the 13 rounds of rosary we offer to all members of the Club every year and the daily inclusion to our prayer intentions.
513 for us means eternity, the length of our gratitude to those who will join us to make this dream come true.
